Since the terrorist attack on the US world trade centre on September 11th of 2001 telecommuting has become an interesting and often spoken topic. Regardless of the type of work field majority of people tend to prefer telecommuting.
Cutting off the time taken to travel to the work place and the cost for it is the major advantage visible in telecommuting. Getting in touch with their family while they work from home would be refreshing for many people. With parents having more time to spend with their children it will ensure a pathway for a better society.
The trust by the employer towards the employee regarding their ability to work to a deadline is essential in a situation like this. Because of the very fact that the employees will be communicating only with the required parties at the required time telecommuting is expected to bring less conflicts between them. Distractions from other parties are almost null in a telecommuting work environment ensuring a better concentration from the employee to the appointed work.
Some companies provide the workers with the required equipments such as computers and internet facilities. A local area connection or telephone connection would be two options out of many to communicate with the work place while you work at home. A worker can also log into the company’s internal network through internet. With so many ways to communicate a degradation of communication in a telecommunicating environment can be considered as only a myth.
In a field like merchandizing or supply chain it is almost essential to communicate with international parties where the time difference could sometimes be a matter and hence it is most convenient for someone to do the communication from home where they can do a commitment towards work even in the night. It is understood that telecommuting would be most effective in a field which would require little or no supervision.
Another aspect to be considered in people coming to work is their satisfaction. Higher salaries or promotions might not be able to fix the problems they have in their family. This is where a company could show their social community responsibility by giving employees the freedom to build up their family while working.
Try to convince your conventional type boss about the benefits in telecommuting working environment and feel the advantages while experiencing your work as well as your personal life improving.
